JOHN McDERMOTT TO PERFORM WITH BOSTON POPS ESPLANADE ORCHESTRA

Irish Tenors star and Leading Veterans Advocate Also To Announce The Opening of a New Service Center for Homeless Veterans

BOSTON, MA - John McDermott will be the featured solo performer for Sail Boston 2000ís Sail Boston International Salute, a farewell celebration of the Tall Shipsí departure of Boston for Halifax. McDermott will perform with the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra this Saturday evening at 8:00 pm at FleetBoston Pavilion. The performance will be followed by a fireworks display over Boston Harbor. Sail Boston 2000 selected John McDermott based on his growing international profile resulting from participation in public television and recording phenomenon The Irish Tenors, and his strong commitment to performing for veterans and active-duty servicemen and women.

McDermott will also be a special guest at a pre-concert reception hosted by the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans. The Shelter will host friends and supporters for an elegant cocktail gathering at the Admiralís Yard reception area at the Black Falcon Cruise Terminal, adjacent to FleetBoston Pavilion. A longtime supporter of the Shelter, Mr. McDermott will join NESHV Executive Director, Thomas J. Lyons, to announce the opening of the Hope McDermott Center, a new facility specializing in services for Bostonís chronically homeless veterans. The Hope McDermott Center will be the first recipient of funds from The Hope McDermott Fund, a charitable organization McDermott founded after the January 2000 passing of his mother, Hope.
