INTERNATIONAL RECORDING STAR JOHN McDERMOTT
ANNOUNCES FALL VETERANSí TOUR
June 28, 2001 ñ World-renowned entertainer John McDermott, a champion of veteransí causes, announced this weekend that he will embark on a tour throughout Canada and the United States in a tribute to the men, women, and families who selflessly sacrificed a part of their lives in service for freedom and democracy. The September 15th through November 16th 2001 REMEMBRANCE TOUR will create a meaningful national reminder of the proud legacy of service that is an undeniable part of our heritage.
May 1999 marked the release of John's eighth album, Remembrance. Since then, the album has become part of a national groundswell of awareness about veteransí causes, signified by the National World War II Memorial Campaign, the 25th Anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, and the present-day sacrifices made by the crewmen and women of the U.S.S. Cole.

"The Veterans population is virtually ignored outside of one day a year," John explains, "So much of the music I sing really speaks to the veterans' experience and I feel a great deal of respect for the men and women who put their lives on the line for the sake of their country." John McDermott is excited by the immense opportunity not only to honor veterans and raise awareness, but also to raise funds for local veteransí charities.
A chance discovery at the age of 39 led this one-time circulation manager for the Toronto Sun to a musical career that has thus far included nine releases, three platinum records, five Juno nominations (the Canadian equivalent of the U.S. Grammy) and a solid touring schedule including upcoming Canadian and U.S. tours, and a solo PBS special scheduled to air in March 2002.
